December 14, 2017 by elizabeth

TORONTO, ON – Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD Co. says it is planning to open its first assembly plant in Ontario.
A Government of Ontario delegation that included Premier Kathleen Wynne and Michael Chan, Minister of International Trade visited the company’s headquarters in Shenzhen, China at the beginning of December on a mission to talk trade and tax credits.
BYD says it will open the plant to conduct final assembly operations on short-range vehicles in the next 12 months, due in part to the investments the government is making in infrastructure to support electric vehicles in the next decade.

Deal signed to support BYD

February 6, 2017 by John Smith

MISSISSAUGA, ON – Mississauga Bus, Coach and Truck Repairs has signed a deal to support BYD electric vehicles in Eastern Canada. The Mississauga, Ontario company will handle parts, service and warranty for the products.
“One of the biggest concerns we had was being able to support any vehicles from California or China. With this agreement in place, these concerns are alleviated,” said Ted Dowling, vice president of BYD Heavy Equipment. “It’s a great vote of confidence in our product and technology to have them associated with BYD.” “We were very impressed with the plants our team visited in China and in California. With the concern over emissions and the move toward zero-emission vehicles, we know that electric vehicles will be part of the future of transportation. Our dedicated technicians look at this as a great opportunity to learn a new skill,” added Mahendra Mahadeo, president of Mississauga Bus, Coach and Truck.

November 30, 2016 by Peter Carter

NEW YORK, NY — Few North American fleets will have heard of BYD (Build Your Dreams) trucks, but the all-electric vehicles created by a company headquartered in Shenzhen, China are securing domestic orders. The company even enjoys financial backing from financial sage Warren Buffet, who invested US $230 million in BYD eight years ago. BYD VP truck sales Andy Swanton told todaystrucking.com that BYD has already taken orders for about 150 trucks, and, he added, “we expect to kind of double that next year. We want to be up to 1,000 by 2020.”
