TORONTO- November 2014 freight volumes dropped 11 percent from October 2014, but truckers still hauled 19 percent more freight in November 2014 compared to November 2013.

You will read about young people who have the energy, technology-smarts and fresh ideas to change the way we do business. After reading this year’s 20 under 40, you will be assured that the future of our industry is in good hands. Something tells me that trucking may already be in my one-year-old son’s blood. When I ask him to back up so I can put his shoes on – he moves backwards while saying “Beep … beep … beep.” Should he choose to join this business and be a part of Today’s Trucking’s 20 Under 40 in year 2039, I could not be more proud.

Aveda Becomes Biggest Oil-Rig Transporter in N.A.

CALGARY, AB-Oilfield transporter Aveda Transportation and Energy Services Inc. is purchasing Oklahoma City, OK.-based Hodges Trucking Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Seventy Seven Energy Inc. (“SSE”). With the purchase, the Canadian-based Aveda becomes the largest rig-moving company on the continent. Hodges currently owns approximately 900 pieces of rig-moving and heavy-haul equipment, including approximately 200 haul trucks, 400 trailers, 70 bed/pole trucks, 35 cranes, 40 forklifts/loaders and 160 service vehicles. Eaton Enhances Automated Transmissions to Boost Fuel Efficiency

LOUISVILLE, KY — Eaton has added new electronic capabilities to its Fuller Advantage Series and UltraShift PLUS automated transmissions that allow for disengagement of a truck’s driveline while on slight downhill grades to drop engine speeds to idle. Eaton says the new technology improves fuel consumption by up to one percent.
