Trucking has some of Canada’s Best Managed Companies
Posted: March 12, 2018
TORONTO, Ont. – More than 15 companies in the trucking industry have been named to Deloitte’s 2018 Best Managed Companies list.
The accounting firm names companies annually to the list in four tiers: companies that are new to the list, those that have been on the list for two or more years, Gold members that have been on the list for three consecutive years, and Platinum members who have been on the list for seven or more years.
Now in its 25th year, Canada’s Best Managed Companies is one of the country’s leading business awards programs recognizing Canadian-owned and managed companies for innovative, world-class business practices. Every year, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies compete for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates the caliber of their management abilities and practices.
Companies who have made the list before are not guaranteed a spot and must reapply for the honor each year.
“It’s much more than just financial performance,” said Lorrie King, Partner, Deloitte and Co-Leader, Canada’s Best Managed Companies program. “The ingredients to success also include overall business performance and sustained growth. It takes dedication and commitment from the entire organization.”
Among this year’s named trucking companies were GeoTab, a fleet telematics company located in Oakville, Ont., Location Brossard, a truck leasing company in Que., Transit Truck Bodies, in Laval, Que., First Truck Centre, a truck sales company based in Alberta and BC, and fleets including C.A.T. Holding, JED Express, Les Fourgons Transit, Liberty Linehaul, Transport Bourassa, and Wills Transfer Limited.
Charger Logistics was named to the Gold standard, and Armour Transportation Systems, Bison Transport, Challenger Motor Frieght, Group Robert, Tallman Truck Centre, TransX Group of Companies, and Kriska Transportation Group were all named to the Platinum club.
Kriska says it credits its long-time status on the list with with its use of technologies that keep drivers safe and its dedication to sustainabiltiy by maintaining a fleet of younger more fuel-efficent trucks.
The company has grown in the last year through acquisition, allowing them to diversify into frieght logistics brockerage, it says.
Louis Leclair, president and owner of the TransitTruck Bodies, says the requalification for the company over multiple years pprovides staff with satisfaction.
“It is the effort of everyone that is the strength of our team, and this award energizes us to the highest point” said Louis Leclair, president and owner of the TransitTruck Bodies.
Deloitte says the ability for all the companies on the list to stay nimble and adjust to market conditions is part of what made it possible for them to be on the list.
“Best Managed winners should be extremely proud of their accomplishments,” said Peter Brown, Partner, Deloitte and Co-Leader, Canada’s Best Managed Companies program. “The marketplace is changing rapidly and this incredible class of companies’ commitment and entrepreneurial leadership help drive business success that is critical for the health of our economy.”
